This is a critical design project, where I'm doing a solar cell cellphone charger, in the shape of a ring. This is meant as a response to the "jewelry law" passed by the Danish government this winter, saying that they will seize valuable items from asylum seekers at the border. After massive critique, the law was changed, so that the government aren't allowed to take jewelry, but they are allowed to take valuables like computers, phones and powerbanks. Therefore, I made a powerbank, the life line of many refugees, into a piece of jewelry, so that they can argue to keep it.
I'm in the process of building the prototype right now, where I will add a disassembled solar cell phone charger and a usb-port. I will bend the long piece so that it can be worn on two fingers, then assemble it all with some good old-fashioned super glue. Stay tuned for updates!
